Women Cricket: South Africa falls to Namibia via DLS as Nigeria and Tanzania split points on Day 1 at the 13th African Games

The maiden edition of Cricket at the 13th African Games began in style on Thursday, March 7, as the Senior Women Game saw exceptional performances at the Achimota Ovals.

Namibia defeated South Africa in their Group A opener on Oval A by 1 run via DLS.

Namibia had scored 89-7 in 20 overs after winning toss before the rain set in. With overs reduced in the second innings to 10 overs and further reduced again due to the downpour, the Women Proteas managed 29-4 in 6 overs, but it was not enough to secure them victory as they had started reaching boundaries after some quick fall of wickets.

In the other match on Oval B, Nigeria had to share points with Tanzania as the rains only allowed them 10 overs of play in the first innings.

Tanzania scored 58-3 after winning the toss.

Namibia tops the group with 2 points, while Nigeria and Tanzania occupy the 2nd and 3rd spots, with South Africa bottom with no point. Matches in groups continue on Friday morning. South Africa faces Tanzania on Oval A, while Namibia welcomes Nigeria on Oval B.
