It keeps getting interesting as the weeks go by in the ongoing Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) Division One league, where Defenders over the weekend pipped Bangle Tigers to sit tight behind leaders Rana Motors with 4 points each in Qualifier A.
Defenders on Sunday, December 15, asked Bangle Tigers to bat first after winning the toss and kept the latter to 98/8, with Daniel Anefi securing his first Player of the Match with his bowling performance, 4.0-2-8-3.
Anefi becomes the only player to pick 2 maiden wicket overs in the league. He recorded a golden duck on Vinay Sharma MTN and dismissed Sheikh Ali Rabby in the same over (0.5) before wrapping up his great performance with another clean bowled on Abdul Ahad Dewan on the 18.1 over.
Defenders scored 99/6 and won the match by 4 wickets.
Earlier, Mr. Kan Evolve became the hero for his side with great bowling figures, 4.0-1-15-3, to pick their first win against BGC. Having beaten Supreme Cricket Club in week two, BGC could not limit Evolve, who painted the whole pitch white in the second innings, outscoring the former 132/5 in 15.2 overs, to win by 5 wickets.
BGC, who won the toss, scored 131/8 in the first innings, with Devender Singh Malik giving a good account of himself, scoring 36 (29) and taking 4.0-0-25-2.
Evolve Paint’s Elijah Afula was also exceptional in both innings, with figures of 3.0-0-17-3 and a performance of 7*(11). Navalekar also contributed to the Evolve Paint’s dominance of the game with 4.0-0-13-2.
Division One A of the GCA league saw Supreme Cricket Club baptizing Saltpond-based Ras Binghi to bounce back to winning ways after their loss to BGC.
Supreme threw in Ras Binghi after winning the toss and kept the enthusiastic lads a little over a century, as Ernest Athur scored 36 (40) in their 105/7 total. Charles Ohene won the Player of the Match with 4.0-0-27-3 and scored 12 (12), as Supreme put together 106/2 in 14 overs to win by 8 wickets.
Philip Yevugah 48 (38) and Eyram Kekeli Afutu 24* (26) were the top scorers to ensure that emphatic victory for Supreme, while the bowling figures of Kingsley Gyekyie 2.0-0-18-3 in the first innings cannot be overlooked.
BGC, Evolve Paint, and Supreme Cricket Club all have 2 points, respectively, from 3rd place to 5th, while CSK, Ras Binghi, and Bangle Tigers finish at the bottom 3 without a point to show.
Week Four will, however, see Evolve Paint host BGC in the early hours of Sunday, December 22, 2024, whereas Ras Binghi battles it out with Bangle Tigers to seek their first 2 points.
